I really want to go to the premiere as well. Is that possible somehow? I don’t care about how much the tickets are. I am from Germany and would love to see the premiere of The Rum Diary. Where can I get some more information about the event and if you can participate?

Great, as if it wasn’t bad enough that Indie films took over the art house theaters, contributing to the all-but-total eclipse of American arthouse cinema…now they’re taking over the museums too?

As Americans, have we just given up on the idea of cinema as art? …while countries like Argentina, Portugal, Romania, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and yes, France, continue on at full speed creating arthouse film cultures that dwarf ours.

This Sundance-y pop-psychological shlock will get shown anyway. It doesn’t need a museum’s help. Meanwhile, directors like Jean-Marie Straub, Pedro Costa, Lav Diaz, Peter Watkins, Lisandro Alonso, Miguel Gomes, Harun Farocki, Jia Zheng-Ke, etc, etc, etc are all-but-unavailable to an American audience.

If you’re just going to show minor league free market commerce, what’s the point of a museum existing?

(And please stop calling Film Independent an “arts” organization. It’s just insulting.)
